SIDS DOCK and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have launched a consultative preparatory process for the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Centre (CCREEE). The 2-day workshop, scheduled for 21 to 22 July 2014, in the Commonwealth of Dominica, will update participants on the preparatory process. This unique and strategic event is aimed at validating the need for the CCREEE that will position itself as a regional coordination hub and think-tank for sustainable energy issues and activities in the Caribbean.

The Second Meeting of Pacific Ministers of Energy and Transport, held from 2 to 4 April 2014, in Nadi, Fiji, endorsed the project document for the establishment of the Pacific Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (PCREEE). The decision was in response to the official request of the Sustainable Energy Island Initiative (SIDS DOCK) by UNIDO, to assist the small island developing states in the Caribbean, Pacific, Indian Ocean and Africa in the establishment of regional sustainable energy centers.

Austria, UNIDO and the Small Island Developing States Sustainable Energy Initiative (SIDS DOCK) establish Sustainable Energy Partnership: Establishment of Regional Sustainable Energy Promotion Centres in Caribbean, Indian Ocean, and the Pacific SIDS and to provide support to African SIDS

A validation meeting on the establishment of the Pacific Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency got under way in Nadi yesterday (12 March 2014) with 30 participants from the region’s energy sector, government, private sector  and non-state organisations in attendance.

The two-day meeting is organised by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), supported by the Government of Austria.

VIENNA, 13 December 2013 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), the operational unit of the Austrian Development Cooperation, signed agreements to support the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and to set up three more centres in East and Southern African and in the Caribbean region.
