KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson, deposited Jamaica’s Instrument of Ratification for the Agreement Establishing the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) on Tuesday.
The ceremony took place in the margins of the 29th Inter-sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), held in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, from February 26-27.
The agreement establishing the CCREEE was signed by CARICOM Heads of Government, including Prime Minister Andrew Holness, on July 6, 2017 at the 38th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM in Grenada.
Establishment of the CCREEE will assist Jamaica in identifying and addressing gaps in its efforts to achieve its energy policy goals and targets for renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Johnson Smith noted that the centre will “support the transformation of the energy sector to an efficient low carbon producing one, by way of the provision of technical and implementation support, as well as the mobilisation of financial and technical resources
