SIDS DOCK and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have launched a consultative preparatory process for the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Centre (CCREEE). The 2-day workshop, scheduled for 21 to 22 July 2014, in the Commonwealth of Dominica, will update participants on the preparatory process. This unique and strategic event is aimed at validating the need for the CCREEE that will position itself as a regional coordination hub and think-tank for sustainable energy issues and activities in the Caribbean. The workshop is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria, Austria Development Agency (ADA) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in collaboration with the SIDS DOCK Secretariat and the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC).
The Government of Austria, through the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), has committed to fund the establishment and first operational phase for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Centres in the Caribbean (CCREEE), Indian Ocean (IOCREEE), and the Pacific (PCREEE), and to provide support to the African islands at the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE). The centers are intended as a response to the energy challenges of SIDS and are intended to play a major role in achieving the SE4All and SIDS DOCK objectives. The Centers will become part of the SIDS DOCK organization and the Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centers, a powerful south-south multi-stakeholder partnership, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development in the energy sector supported by UNIDO. The Centers are designed to work in accordance with local rules and procedures and demonstrate strong local ownership and identity.
HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE CONSULTATIVE PREPARATORY PROCESS FOR THE CCREEE
As part of the meeting preparations, the company AETS-Consultants (http://www.aets-consultants.com), based in France, was contracted to undertake the needs and gap assessment. Based on the assessment results, the technical and institutional design of the Centre will be determined. In this context, we would appreciate if you could complete the attached questionnaire and send it back to: survey@ccreee.org, no later than Monday July 7, 2014. We would appreciate if you could forward the questionnaire also to other key stakeholders in the energy sector. The AETS-Consultants will also try to schedule interviews with colleagues, and in this regard, we would appreciate if you could assist them as your feedback is crucial to ensuring that the needs of the region are met through the proper design of the Centre. A Concept Paper for the CCREEE has been prepared (click on it).
